Here is where this whole thing started. I wrote this little story about playing music for birds which was published back in October of 2000 by a lovely online publication, Music for the Love of It, and subsequently even got a chance to meet its wonderful publisher and editor, Edgar (Ted) Rust in Berkeley, California. My recollection is that he played oboe. He and his wife were birders and they took me on a canoe expedition to look for an elusive rail – an activity at the time that was way over my bird-head. The final issue Music for the Love of It, Volume 21 No. 6, was published in November 2008.
I revisited this piece just recently, sharing it at the UTUUC Women’s Retreat, and it was so well-received, I thought I should share it further.
